Last month, Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke with Nikhil Kamath of Nikhil-Vinay fame during the re-release of Tum Bin (2001). We went down memory lane with him and also talked to him about the song ‘Meri Pant Bhi Sexy’ , that he and Vinay Tiwari composed for Govinda-Karisma Kapoor starrer Dulaara (1994). Nikhil Kamath was asked whether the song led to any controversy.

He replied, “People enjoyed the track and had no complaints. The media made it into a controversial track. They dubbed it as a vulgar song.

But it was not vulgar; it was a fun track. There was no real sex in the song!” Nikhil Kamath further said, “It was Govinda’s choice. He made us hear the song ‘I'm Too Sexy’ by Right Said Fred.

We made it clear that we won’t copy the tune. We suggested that we’ll deliver the song as per his requirement, but it’ll be our composition. Rani Malik wrote the lyrics.

So, we used all the context of ‘I'm Too Sexy’ but we didn’t copy the tune.” Nikhil continued, “Today, I am happy since nobody can say we lifted the song. In fact, if you go through our works, you’ll hardly find any songs copied by Nikhil-Vinay.

We lost a lot of films due to this reason as many producers used to come up with a foreign song and ask us to remake it. We used to decline. Many people used to tell us, ‘Are you both mad? The whole world is (copying songs)’.

This way, we lost about 8-10 films.” Can he recall any film which he lost out due to this reason? Nikhil Kamath .
