Dharmesh Darshan’s association with Aamir Khan is well known as both worked together in two films – Raja Hindustani (1996) and Mela (2000). However, many are not aware that Dharmesh and Shah Rukh Khan also have a lovely bond. The articulate and talented director talked about it in an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Hungama .
Dharmesh Darshan said, “There was one film that Karim Morani wanted to make in 2004, starring Shah Rukh Khan. SRK had sent them to me. I couldn’t do it as I was busy with Bewafaa (2005).
” Karim Morani was one of the partners in Cineyug, the banner that produced Raja Hindustani . Dharmesh continued, “It was so nice of Shah Rukh. He, himself, also offered a film to me under his home production, Red Chillies Entertainment after Asoka (2001).
This happened at Aditya Chopra’s house at 2 am in 2002. He's the number one genuine and creative guy who deserves every bit of success. I have never seen a film star of that level of generosity.
He’s also got class; he’s a real star as well as an actor, on the lines of Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar.” Dharmesh Darshan added, “Twice, I got an offer from him and I had to decline them. He told me, ‘Come on Dharmesh, break your rule of doing one film at a time’.
It can offend any star when he offers a film to a director only to get a ‘No’ in return. But he’s an exception.” He also revealed, “I met him at the premiere of Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012).
I hadn’t gone to any film event afte.
