Jio Studios and Aamir Khan Productions’ ‘ Laapataa Ladies ,’ directed by Kiran Rao, has won the hearts of the audience with its interesting story and humor. The film is now India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025 and this is the biggest feather in its cap. And in an exclusive interview with Firstpost, writer Sneha Desai, who has contributed to the screenplay and dialogues, opened up on the feat the film has achieved, working with Aamir and Kiran, the reason the film struck a chord with the audiences, and her future projects.
Edited excerpts from the interview When did this germ of the idea come up? When did you feel that, okay, this is a story that I would like to tell, I would like to write? The story does not belong to me. The story was offered to me by Aamir Khan Productions and it’s written by Biplab Goswami, and they asked me if I would like to develop this into screenplay and dialogues. So it literally landed in my lap.
It was a beautifully written story so there was no way I would have said no. And also, what was your contribution? How did you contribute to making of this film? The story was given to me and the screenplay and dialogues are by me. So primarily, I think the script was the part that was assigned to me and I think I’ve done a decent job with it; those two major credits, screenplay and dialogues remain with me.
How many messages have you got ever since we came to know that Laapata Ladies is India’s official entry for the Oscars? We’ve rea.
