A popular North Cork takeaway which closed last year is going to be reopened as a new owner has taken over the beloved local eatery. An established local business owner, who is keeping the new venture quiet for now, has recently purchased Buckley's Cafe in Kanturk - a little over a year after the beloved takeaway closed - and they are going to keep it running as Buckley's. Buckley's was established in the 1980s and the new owners said that they want to honour the Buckley family by keeping it trading under the "iconic" name.
They officially announced the new ownership online this week, and promised customers, who will no doubt have missed Buckley's, that there are "exciting times ahead" and told us today they are hoping to "bring back the good times." Rosemary Fleming was the last owner of the busy cafe, having taken over from local woman Joan Buckley who had run the Watergate Street restaurant for decades. Rosemary took over the business after moving from her native Dallas, Texas to be with her husband Gerry Fleming on his family dairy farm outside Kanturk.
Despite a busy family life with twin toddlers, Rosemary managed a very busy trade, offering classic Irish cafe fare and keeping up a very strong reputation among locals and visitors alike.
