Like, back in May 2023 during a chat with about the 20th anniversary of , Jamie and Lindsay revealed they were both interested in participating in the sequel. “As I went around the world with , people wanted to know if there was going to be another ,” Jamie told the publication at the time.

Despite a buncha deets about the plot being kept hush-hush, one important tidbit that been publicized is that despite there being an , there is currently a that is “said to bring a multigenerational approach to the story.” More recently, broke the news that director Nisha Ganatra—aka the filmmaker behind the sequel—shared an open casting call to fill the new role of Anna's 14-year-old daughter, Harper, on her Instagram Story. According to the report, Harper can best be described as “a tomboy with a sharp sense of humor” who's “in a bit of a mood these days because her longtime single mom is set to marry British restaurateur Eric Davis.

According to Disney, "the new film picks up years after Curtis and Lohan’s characters, Tess and Anna, first endured an identity crisis: Anna has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate challenges that come when two families merge, they discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.
