A-level results day brings with it a heady mix of emotions as it marks the end of a school journey the start of a new future for many. Anxiety and fear are overtaken by joy, relief or disappointment as students discover what grades they have been given and all that entails. Whatever the outcome there is one certainty on the day – there will be an annual update on Jeremy Clarkson’s current life status.

For the past 10 years, the multi-millionaire television presenter has posted on social media his own A-level grades achieved while at prestigious private school Repton. (A C and two Us, for those not in the know) And with it he offers a report on how his life is going 40-odd years after his own A-level results day, from holidaying on a superyacht to opening his own brewery. Aside from the free advertising for his latest venture, its aim is to serve as a reminder to teenagers caught up in a spiral of doubt or despair over A-level results which didn’t go the way they expected that in the end those grades are never as important as they seemed at the time.



2014 – Mercedes Benz The former Top Gear presenter and self-confessed petrol-head kicked off his annual reminder about A-level results and their relevance to successful careers with the initial revelation about his own results and how he was nonetheless now the owner of a Mercedes Benz car. If your A level results aren't joyous take comfort from the fact I got a C and two Us. And I have a Mercedes Benz.

2015 – St Tropez villa One year on and despite his poor A-level results as a teen, Clarkson revealed he was holidaying in a villa in St Tropez for the summer. If your A level results aren't great, be cheered by the fact that I got a C and two Us. And I'm currently sitting in a villa in St Tropez.

2016 – Superyacht The villa was surpassed by a superyacht in the Med a year later as the newspaper columnist highlighted his own personal success in spite of his A-level results. If your A level results are disappointing, don't worry. I got a C and two Us, and I'm currently on a superyacht in the Med.

2017 – Truffles for breakfast In 2017, the Grand Tour presenter chose results day to disclose how his own private chef was currently preparing a breakfast of much-prized truffles for him even though he only achieved a C and two Us in his own A-level exams. If you didn't get the right A level results, don't worry. I got a C and 2 Us, and my chef is preparing truffles for breakfast.

2018 – Range Rovers In a bid to quell the anxieties of those who didn’t get the grades they wanted in 2018, the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire ? host said he was in the process of choosing which of his Range Rovers to drive that day. Don’t worry if your A level grades aren’t any good. I got a C and 2 Us.

And I’m sitting here deciding which of my Range Rovers to use today 2019 – French chateau In 2019, the millionaire posted a photo on X of a large French chateau with accompanying details of how he had rented for the summer. A level results a bit rubbish? Don’t worry. I got a C and two Us and I’ve rented this place for the summer.

pic.twitter.com/tJNmJNv14X 2020 – Large house in the Cotswolds As the pandemic began, Clarkson’s travels were curtailed but he marked out his success by telling the world he was currently building a large house in the Cotswolds.

A level results not great? Don’t worry, I got a C and 2 Us and I’m currently building a large house with far reaching views of the Cotswolds 2021 – Friends and a Bentley Another Covid year meant students were awarded A-level grades by their teachers rather than sitting exams – a matter noted by Clarkson, who went on to reveal despite his own poor grades he was happy, had plenty of friends and a Bentley car. If the teachers didn’t give you the A level results you were hoping for, don’t worry. I got a C and 2Us and I’ve ended up happy, with loads of friends and a Bentley.

2022 – Boat holiday 2022 was a year marked out with a photo once again, this time his current holiday destination aboard a luxurious boat drifting on blue water in an idyllic location. Don’t worry if your A level results are disappointing. I got a C and 2 Us and I’m currently holidaying on this boat.

pic.twitter.com/f7BQxi86wS 2023 – Brewery Last year as his farm project took off along with the accompanying Amazon series Clarkson’s Farm , the presenter used his annual life status update to reveal despite his early academic failures he was now the owner of his own brewery.

It’s not the end of the world if your A level results aren’t what you’d hoped for. I got a C and 2 Us and here I am today with my own brewery. 2024 – Pub And this year, he chose to advertise his latest business venture once again with his A-level post.

This time he divulged he now had a pub, which happens to have its official opening the weekend after results day for those wanting to raise a glass either in celebration or commiseration after the results. Don’t worry if your A level results aren’t what you were hoping for. I got a C and two Us, and here I am, 46 years later, with my own pub.
