SHREVEPORT, La. - It's been a whirlwind week for Evangel Eagles quarterback Peyton Houston after he set a national record for passing. Houston is a sophomore quarterback for the Eagles.

On Oct. 10, he threw for 817 passing yards against the Captain Shreve Gators. But it wasn't until the next day he learned he had set a new national record -- 817 passing yards.

That's the most thrown in a single high school game, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations. "After the game, they had pulled me aside and said I broke the state record. So, I was like, that's good.

At the end of the day, we lost, so I was kind of like, sour. So, the next day I'm like, dang, we really just lost, and then I get a call from my dad. He said, 'You just broke the national record.

' So we came up here. The guy said I broke the national record. We took some pictures, and then after that, we went out to a college visit," said Houston.

Since breaking the record, Houston has been featured on national sports shows like ESPN. But he said he is trying to look forward to winning the next game. "It has been crazy.

My phone's been blowing up so I had to put it on DND (do not disturb) to just continue to focus on what's really important instead of just the past and what record I broke," said Houston. Houston also had 10 total touchdowns in the game, but he said he couldn't have done any of it without his teammates. "I feel like in my heart that I really didn't do much in that game besides .
