Europe is brimming with well-known travel destinations but it’s also home to numerous hidden gems that offer unique experiences without the overwhelming tourist crowds . Veering off well-trodden routes is easy to do thanks to a new list of eight "secret" places in Europe as revealed by HomeToGo. The holiday rental experts have dug out the most enchanting destinations across Spain , Italy , Germany and France that are largely undiscovered by UK visitors.

Places treasured by locals include the serene beaches of Côtes-d'Armor and the vibrant city of Zaragoza, both of which could rival the likes of Paris and Barcelona. According to the HomeToGo experts, these destinations are in demand with the residents of each country, appearing in lists of the 100 most-searched locations amongst domestic travellers. However, the statistics show that these beloved-by-locals sites have not yet been discovered by (the majority of) UK travellers.



Looking at exclusively UK holidaymaker searches for each country, none broke into the top 200 most-in-demand places to stay. Europe's 'best kept' destinations Home to striking stretches of pink granite coastline, ancient forests, and charming medieval towns, Dinan is well worth a visit. Decorated with cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses, visitors can hike through the forest of Coat-an-Noz and the scenic Vallée des Saints with its giant statues of Breton saints.

Foodies can savour flavoursome seafood at the bustling port of pretty Paimpol while history fans can peruse the town's 14th-century castle. Castellabate boasts stunning coastal views, historical landmarks, and a tranquil Mediterranean atmosphere. Here, holidaymakers can explore the ancient hilltop village with its narrow streets and medieval castle, offering panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Alternatively, relax on the pristine beaches of nearby Santa Maria di Castellabate, and enjoy delicious local cuisine featuring fresh seafood and traditional Campanian dishes. Renowned for its impressive Baroque architecture and exciting foodie scene, Zaragoza is the perfect destination for those looking for an alternative to Barcelona. Here you can wander through the historic streets and marvel at the Basilica del Pilar and ancient Roman walls.

Join events along the Ebro River, and visit the area of El Tubo to savour traditional Aragonese cuisine in this bustling city's tapas bars.
