Basel, Switzerland (file) (Image: Getty) There is a European city that lies in three different countries at once, and locals get about by floating down its river. If you're looking to visit as many countries as possible, Basel in Switzerland is perfect. It is located next to the point where the Swiss, French and German borders meet, and even has suburbs extending into both France and Germany .

Travel influencer @emsbudgettravel visited Basel earlier this year, and shared her experience in a TikTok video. She showed viewers that there is a tripoint at which the three borders all intersect, meaning you can actually visit all three countries within the space of about 10 seconds. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.

Basel is also a good "base" from which to visit neighbouring cities and locations, Em added. And despite Switzerland's reputation as one of the most expensive countries in the world, she still managed to visit Basel "on a budget" - spending just £149 on flights, accommodation, food, transport and other expenditures across the four days she was there. And Basel's location isn't its only peculiar quirk, as some locals get about the city by floating down the Rhine river.

Today I learned that people in Basel, Switzerland, use the river to commute by just jumping in and floating downstream. You can buy “dry bags” to put your clothing and/or shopping in and then use it as a floatation device. I’m kind of obsessed.
