Tuesday, July 16, 2024 Etihad Airways, UAE’s flagship carrier, and Batik Air Malaysia have recently expanded their collaboration through a new codeshare agreement, enhancing the travel network for their passengers. Travelers flying with Etihad can now effortlessly reach eight additional domestic and international destinations through Batik Air’s central hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). This partnership allows passengers to book a single ticket for flights on both airlines, streamlining their travel experience.

The codeshare partnership also provides the added benefit of seamless baggage transfers to passengers’ final destinations. As part of the new agreement, Etihad passengers gain access to five Malaysian domestic routes—Johor Bahru, Langkawi, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, and Tawau—as well as three international routes, including Da Nang and Hanoi in Vietnam, and Perth in Australia. This collaboration offers greater flight options and convenience for travelers entering and departing Malaysia, leveraging the expansive networks of both airlines.

Batik Air’s routes are now more accessible to international customers, who can connect through Kuala Lumpur, which is serviced by Etihad’s two daily flights from Abu Dhabi. Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad, said: “This collaboration significantly enhances our codeshare network, offering travellers seamless access to five key destinations in Malaysia, including the idyllic island of Langkawi, the culturally and culinary rich city of Penang, and Kota Kinabalu, the gateway to Borneo’s tallest peak Mount Kinabalu. “Equally, we eagerly anticipate extending a warm welcome to customers from Asia visiting our home in Abu Dhabi, experiencing our renowned hospitality, as well as passengers connecting to Etihad’s growing global network in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe via our Abu Dhabi hub.

” Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, Chief Executive Officer of Batik Air Malaysia, said: “Through this partnership, we aim to welcome visitors globally to explore Malaysia’s diverse attractions, alongside destinations across South-East Asia and more. “We aim to establish Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) as a transit hub, further enhancing Etihad’s connectivity for its passengers, ensuring a more comprehensive and convenient travel experience,” he said, adding that Etihad passengers can easily transit through KUL to reach various destinations in Malaysia, Southeast Asia, Australia, and beyond. “Moreover, this partnership will expand flight choices for Malaysian travellers, offering enhanced travel options to discover new international destinations beyond Abu Dhabi.

” The partnership officially commenced with flights starting on 16 July 2024, marking Batik as Etihad’s 38th codeshare partner. Established in 2003, Etihad Airways has grown to become a global aviation leader, operating from Abu Dhabi to destinations across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. Batik Air, a growing airline based in Malaysia, operates from its primary hub at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, KLIA Main Terminal, and a convenient city airport in downtown Kuala Lumpur, Selangor.
