Erik Menendez has publicly criticized Ryan Murphy and his new Netflix series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. This limited series is the second installment of Murphy's Monsters anthology with Ian Brennan , following last year's Jeffrey Dahmer story. The show, which premiered on Thursday, September 19, sparked controversy even before its release due to concerns about its exploitative nature and potential sexualization of the brothers' relationship.

Meet the cast of Monsters The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story Menendez brothers' lives now after parents' murder as Netflix show is released Erik, now 53, voiced his disapproval of the series on his brother Lyle's Facebook page, condemning its portrayal of them. He accused Murphy of spreading falsehoods and undermining their childhood trauma. Both Erik and his older brother Lyle, 56, have maintained that they were victims of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse by their parents, which led them to commit parricide.

In a statement captured in a screenshot, he said: "I believed we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the show. "I can only believe they were done so on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent.

Erik also criticized the series' creator, stating, "those awful lies" by Ryan "have been disrupted and exposed by countless brave victims over the last two decades who have broken through their personal shame and bravely spoken out." He accused the 58-year-old TV producer of crafting "his horrible narrative through vile and appalling character portrayals of Lyle and me and disheartening slander.

" The article concludes with related topics, mentioning the outrage of fans over perceived inaccuracies in the Netflix series about the Menendez brothers and providing insights into their current life in prison in San Diego, including activities like yoga classes and marriages. "Is the truth not enough? Let the truth stand as the truth," Erik stated. "How demoralizing is it to know that one man with power can undermine decades of progress in shedding light on childhood trauma.

" He expressed gratitude from the "bottom of his heart" towards those who offered support before concluding his statement. Erik also pondered on the implications of violence, stating its tragic nature and emphasizing that while never being an answer or solution, it's critical not to overlook that violence against children "creates a hundred horrendous and silent crime scenes darkly shadowed behind glitter and glamor and rarely exposed until tragedy penetrates everyone involved." Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story chronicles the actual murder of Erik and Lyle's parents, Jose and Mary Louise "Kitty" Menendez, in August 1989, followed by their widely covered trial in the early '90s.

The Menendez brothers received life sentences without parole for the murder convictions on two counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Both are currently incarcerated at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.

In the series, Nicholas Alexander Chavez plays Lyle, Cooper Koch portrays Erik, and Javier Bardem and Chloe Sevigny assume the roles of their ill-fated parents..
