The Project host leads public backlash as enraged Aussies slam decision to name Today host David Campbell and rocker Jimmy Barnes as joint Fathers of the Year READ MORE: Jimmy Barnes reacts as Cold Chisel hit number one on the charts while he recovers from surgery By Stephen Bisset For Daily Mail Australia Published: 04:02 BST, 30 August 2024 | Updated: 04:39 BST, 30 August 2024 e-mail View comments A host on The Project has led the public backlash slamming the decision to name rocker Jimmy Barnes and his son David Campbell as joint Fathers Of the Year. The duo were given the honour on Thursday by father advocacy organisation The Fathering Project, marking the first time the award has been given to two recipients. David and Jimmy were famously estranged for years with the TV star only learning of his father's identity when he was ten years old, but they now have a close relationship.
In a statement about the award, Today Extra host David Campbell, 51, said sharing the honour with his rock icon father Jimmy Barnes, 68, was 'special'. However, not all Aussies were pleased with the news, with many slamming the decision, arguing they shouldn't have been given the award just because of their fame. The Project's Nick Cody led the charge of 'raging' Aussies as he admitted the divisive decision almost made him 'kick his phone' across the room in a spate of anger.
'If Jimmy Barnes can win Father of the Year, I'm a crack at the Brownlow (Medal). What is happening? I was livid,' the fat.
