Jaron Ennis will rematch his IBF Welterweight mandatory Karen Chukhadzhian on November 9 from Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center. This will be Ennis’s second defense of his title since joining Matchroom Boxing. He stopped David Avanesyan in his last fight to secure the IBF Welterweight Title in his first fight in Philadelphia since 2018.

It was a successful homecoming as the attention turned towards securing the biggest fights. There were talks for Ennis to face the WBO Welterweight Champion Brian Norman Jr . Eddie Hearn reportedly offered $1.

7 million, the highest of a series of offers. However, talks broke down after Norman Jr.’s team allegedly requested $2.

2 million. During this period, the IBF had ordered Ennis to face his mandatory Karen. Matchroom Boxing lost the purse bids by $250,000 as there were serious question marks over whether they wanted the fight to go ahead.

Ennis Vs. Chukhadzhian Ennis then had a decision to make. He could have vacated his IBF title and moved to 154 pounds to pursue bigger fights.

Alternatively, he had the opportunity to rematch his mandatory to secure big unification fights at 147 next year. Now that the fight has been confirmed, Ennis hopes to put on a stellar performance and then dominate the 147 division next year. “I’m excited to be back headlining in my city again.

I’m ready to continue dominating the division, making a big statement and showing everyone why I’m the best Welterweight in the world. It’s time to have some fun, keep crushing whoever is in front of me, put on a beautiful, dominant, crushing performance in front of my family, friends and supporters, while defending and retaining my IBF world title in spectacular fashion. It’s time,” Ennis “Dear boxing fans.

I want to share with you the good news: on November 9 we will fight for the IBF World title against Ennis. I will have enough time to prepare and show a beautiful and spectacular fight! Champ, get ready for the battle, it will be hot,” Chukhadzhian stated Ennis’ Future The news has not gone down well with the boxing fanbase, given that Ennis is at the peak of his career. The boxer is currently 32-0 with 29 knockouts.

And yet, he has not secured a big-name win on his resume, raising serious question marks over his mindset. While Ennis can only beat those in front of him, his failure to face the other big names at 147 pounds, such as Mario Barrios and Eimantas Stanionis , will naturally come under scrutiny. There were other big names available at 154 pounds, such as Virgil Ortiz Jr .

and Tim Tszyu . These would have been ideal fights for Ennis to take before targeting a lucrative bout with Terence Crawford at 154 pounds. Although Crawford is chasing a legacy-defining fight with Canelo Alvarez, there is no guarantee that that fight will go ahead.

The Mexican has given mixed comments towards whether he would take that fight, leaving Ennis with an opportunity to step in. If Ennis were to secure impressive wins against Ortiz Jr. and Tszyu at 154 pounds, it would naturally increase the calls for Crawford to face Ennis.

The Saudis have expressed their desire to put on that fight, and if the right amount of money were put up, then the fight would no doubt sell with the boxing public. Either way, Ennis has to ensure he puts on an impressive performance to keep building his reputation. This article first appeared on BoxingNews.
