Naulumatua Ground in Nabouwalu was abuzz with energy as youth from the three divisions of Vanua Levu gathered to celebrate International Youth Day. The event was a display of unity and culture as participants wore their finest bula wear and province-printed T-shirts. The day aimed to raise awareness about youth issues and celebrate the contribution of young people.

The gathering was marked by a lively atmosphere, with music and laughter filling the air. Local officials and community leaders were present to show their support and appreciation for the youth. The Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru officiating at the event “This day is a celebration of our youth and their potential,” Mr Saukuru said.



“It’s an opportunity for them to come together, share their experiences, and inspire each other.” Macuata Youth Council vice president Pita Baleibau said it was great to see many young people coming together and learning from each other. “It inspires me to be more active in my community and pursue my goals with more determination ” he said.

The event featured a range of activities designed to engage and entertain the attendees. These included traditional Fijian dances, sports competition, and talanoa sessions on various topics relevant to the youth. The day also allowed youth to ask questions to civil servants on programs which they are able to benefit from as different ministries set up booth at the ground.

Cultural performances were also a significant part of the celebration. Traditional dances and music performances showcased the rich heritage of Vanua Levu and provided a platform for young performers to display their talents. The cultural segments were met with enthusiastic applause and cheering from the audience.

The celebration not only marked International Youth Day but also highlighted the potential of Vanua Levu’s youth in shaping the future of their communities..
