The trophy’s arrival from Dubai, where it was transported in Emirates’ Airbus A380 featuring a new NBA-themed livery, underscores the airline’s role as the Official Global Airline Partner and the first-ever title sponsor of the Emirates NBA Cup. The tournament kicked off on November 12 and will wrap up with the Championship game on December 17 in Las Vegas.
Last month, Emirates unveiled the A380’s stunning new look, sporting a dynamic blue and red design that celebrates this unique partnership. NBA Hall of Famer James Worthy was on hand to escort the trophy from Dubai to New York. Upon its arrival, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and Emirates Senior Vice President Commercial Operations for the West, Thierry Aucoc, officially welcomed the trophy, signaling the tournament’s commencement.
A High-Flying Basketball Experience The flight offered passengers a unique basketball experience with cabin interiors decked out in NBA decor and a menu featuring basketball-themed dishes served in NBA-branded packaging. The in-flight entertainment system, ice, provided passengers with a selection of classic NBA games and live broadcasts of the cup matches. First and Business class passengers enjoyed a chance to mingle with Worthy in the onboard lounge, savoring game day snacks like sliders, pizzas, and pretzels alongside gour.
