Dubai-based Emirates Group is celebrating Emirati Women's Day today, as the women within the organization play an integral role in efficiently running every aspect of the group's operation. The group has onboarded the largest number of new Emirati women in the past year and has them in various positions across the board, including senior leadership roles. Making up 38% of the group's Emirati workforce, Emirati women have a considerable presence in all of the group's subsidiaries. They also proudly hold positions at various levels, including over 200 Emirati women working in leadership roles across the group. Considering their integral role in running various parts of the industry, Emirates Group is committed to integrating more Emirati Women into the group and the UAE's booming aviation industry.

Furthermore, the group saw a record 20% growth in the number of Emirati Women appointed in leadership roles when compared to the previous year, and the group also promoted five female Emirati staff members to senior executive roles in key departments within the group. The group also maintains partnerships with various organizations, such as Rolls-Royce , Airbus , GE Aviation, Microsoft, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and more, to provide leadership training programs for the Emirati workforce within the group, to help further their careers and contributions within the organization. Furthermore, in the past 12 months, the group has also sponsored some Emirati female staff members to attend postgraduate courses in the top 100 ranking universities worldwide.

Not just Emirates Considering it is Emirati Women's Day, the Emirates group was not the only one to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Emirati Women to the UAE's aviation sector. Fellow carriers such as flydubai and Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways also proudly took part in celebrating the key roles undertaken by Emirati Women in their respective organizations. Similar to the trend seen in the Emirates Group, flydubai has also seen a significant increase in the number of Emirati women joining the carrier, which has tripled this year compared to August 2022.

Etihad, on the other hand, holds the significant milestone of having the first-ever female Emirati pilot to be a captain on a commercial airline, Aisha Al Mansoori, who achieved this feat in 2022 after starting her journey in 2007 as a cadet pilot in Etihad's flight training program. Etihad has just promoted one of its most experienced female first officers to the rank of Captain. Women in aviation Looking beyond just the United Arab Emirates, the number of women working in the aviation industry has been rapidly increasing worldwide in recent years, and airlines around the world always ensure their female workforce is always celebrated.

A recent trend within the aviation industry is to operate flights on special occasions with an all-female crew, both in the air and on the ground. During International Women's Day earlier this year, Australian carriers Qantas and Jetstar marked the occasion by operating three flights exclusively by women , both in the air and on the ground. Another example is the Mexican carrier Viva Aerobus, which used an all-female flight crew on the delivery flight of the airline's 70th aircraft in 2023.
