Warner Bros. Animation and Bad Robot will team for a big screen adaptation of “Emily the Strange”. The character is a punky goth girl with assorted cats who makes witty observations about society and is all about being yourself and refusing to be defined by others.

Created by skateboarder Rob Reger in the early 1990s, the design took on a life of its own two decades ago – leading to a multimillion-dollar worldwide business involving fashion, books and comics, toys, school supplies and accessories. Dark Horse has been publishing Emily comics since 2005, while the character also inspired four HarperCollins novels and four Chronic Books graphic novellas. Fox Animation planned a film back in 2005 that fell apart.

Universal planned a live-action film in 2010 with Chloe Grace Moretz attached to star. That project also fell by the wayside in development. Bad Robot’s SVP of Animation John Agbaje says in a statement: “The team assembled has so much passion for Emily the Strange, what she’s represented so far, and what she will mean to future generations.

” “Moana” writer Pamela Ribon is writing the screenplay this time out. Source:.
