After closing 20 months ago for remodeling, Emeryville’s Honor Kitchen & Cocktails is back online in a ritzy-yet-familiar way. The gastropub celebrated its soft opening this week with a vastly reimagined dining room and an outdoor lounging space with comfy furniture and fire pits. The food-and-drink program features upscale Northern California tavern fare, limited-release library wines and beers from San Francisco’s Beach Chalet Brewery & Restaurant, with which Honor shares owners.

The restaurant’s website is asking people to think of the redone restaurant as a “speakeasy-style swanky cool hang place.” Related Articles Restaurants, Food and Drink | San Jose: Not one but two Shake Shacks coming to town Restaurants, Food and Drink | 7 amazing Bay Area things to do this weekend Restaurants, Food and Drink | The largest vegan food fest in NorCal arrives in Berkeley Restaurants, Food and Drink | Crush’d, Danville’s newest wine bar and kitchen, opens Friday Restaurants, Food and Drink | Angkor Chef’s journey from sauce ‘engineer’ to San Jose restaurant owner Opened in 2011, Honor was embraced by neighborhood folks for its velvety, cave-darkened interior and elevated comfort food. Gone is the murkiness: The remodel has left the interior filled with natural light, with leather furniture and a small stage for unspecified performances.

There are new roll-down glass walls, swanky chandeliers, fresh murals and big TVs for all-important game days. The old Honor had an ambitious cocktail program but managed to hold an appeal for beer slobs and lovers of rail drinks, as well. Many classic drinks are still on the menu, including a cherished bucket of beers, but there are now high-concept tipples like a “translucent clarified White Russian” called The Dude Abides, and a mocktail made with chamomile, honey meringue and the zero-proof spirit Wilderton Earthen.

On the food side, there are shareable plates like roasted bone marrow with wild mushrooms, Maine lobster ceviche, sweet-chili lamb riblets, octopus carpaccio and garlicky Monterey artichokes. A notable addition is the arrival of creatively themed pizzas. Nothing on the revamped menu is more than $28.

Honor celebrates its final soft-opening day (reservations only) on August 15, then transitions to regular late-night hours. The remodel is the latest project from restaurateurs Gar and Lara Truppelli, who aside from The Beach Chalet also founded the Park Chalet Coastal Beer Garden in Golden Gate Park, the Lake Chalet Seafood Bar & Grill in Oakland and Gravity Tavern in Mill Valley.
