East Lancashire Railway have announced that they are bringing back the SEND friendly Santa Special event. This is following last year’s successful launch of these inclusive Christmas experiences. Due to the popularity of the event, ELR will bring back the event for three dates, November 23, 24 and 30.

Children and families can experience the magic of Christmas in a relaxed, SEND-friendly environment that offers all the festive touches of the traditional Santa Special but with adjustments to ensure everyone can enjoy. The arrival window has also been extended, allowing guests extra time to board at a pace that suits them, reducing crowding and creating a more relaxed experience for all.

Onboard, there will be specially designated calm carriages, wheelchair-accessible entries and swift platform exits. While aboard, passengers will meet Christmas characters, have the option to enjoy a brass band and receive a special gift from Father Christmas himself.

Children will be given mood cards to communicate their comfort level with performers. M.
