Friday, October 4, 2024 Lucknow launches electric double-decker buses to enhance Navratri travel, boost tourism, and reduce pollution, offering eco-friendly transport with key city landmarks. In preparation for the upcoming Navratri celebrations, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced electric double-decker buses in Lucknow as a key step toward enhancing public transportation and reducing air pollution. According to Daya Shankar Singh, Lucknow’s transport minister, these buses are set to hit the streets in early October 2024.
In an interview with PTI, Singh revealed that the tender process for around 100 buses, including double-decker models that can accommodate up to 65 passengers each, has already been completed. The initiative not only aims to improve daily commuting but also to boost tourism in Lucknow. Initially, the buses will operate within the city, with future plans to extend the service to other districts across Uttar Pradesh.
These double-decker buses are designed to offer tourists a convenient and enjoyable way to explore Lucknow’s most iconic landmarks. For a single ticket, passengers can visit attractions like Bhool Bhulaiya, Residency, and the Lucknow Zoo from the comfort of the upper deck, which provides panoramic views of the city’s famous sites. Singh emphasized that this initiative will make sightseeing in Lucknow more accessible and enjoyable for both locals and visitors.
Efforts are underway to ensure ticket prices remain affordable for everyon.
