Thursday, November 14, 2024 Electra.aero, Inc. (Electra) has unveiled its pioneering EL9 Ultra Short hybrid-electric aircraft, a nine-passenger piloted model designed for a sustainable future in aviation—eliminating the need for traditional airports, reducing emissions, and minimizing noise.
With over a year of successful flight testing of its EL2 Goldfinch two-seat prototype, Electra now transitions into the development phase of the EL9, marking a new milestone in electric aviation. Equipped with a hybrid-electric propulsion system and innovative blown lift technology, the EL9 enables ultra-short takeoffs and landings in spaces as small as a soccer field—previously accessible only to helicopters and eVTOLs—at a fraction of the cost, with enhanced safety and reliability of a fixed-wing design. This breakthrough expands air service access to thousands of unconventional locations, including small regional airports, grassy fields, and parking lots, providing seamless point-to-point regional connectivity for both passengers and cargo.
Emitting significantly less noise and emissions than traditional aircraft, the EL9’s hybrid-electric system offers extended range with in-flight battery recharging, eliminating the need for ground charging infrastructure. “Today’s reveal of the EL9 showcases the dedication of our incredible team and partners,” said Marc Allen, CEO of Electra. “This aircraft is more than a new design—it’s the gateway to a cleaner, quieter, and mor.
