Pune: Election fever is sweeping not only the political battleground in Maharashtra but also city school campuses. School representatives, teachers and students are engaged in educational sessions about the democratic process, conducting mock Parliaments, election mock-ups, debates and street plays. Some schools have also developed electronic voting machines (EVMs) in tinkering labs to give students the experience of casting one's ballot.
Further, students are being encouraged to initiate conversations at home, motivating family and neighbours to exercise their voting rights responsibly. Equipped with a more practical understanding of democracy, schools and students are spreading awareness about the importance of voting, informed decision-making, and civic responsibility . The associated creative endeavours include poster campaigns and digital media outreach.
Commenting on ongoing efforts, DSK School principal Jayashree Mulay told TOI, "Our school is organising special programmes and workshops to help students understand election procedures and share this knowledge. The initiative has been met with appreciation from people, who view the children's enthusiasm as a contribution toward building a more informed and engaged community."
