Abiodun Nejo The Ekiti State government has urged residents to patronise public health facilities in their areas for quality and affordable healthcare services. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, made the appeal at Iye Ekiti, in the Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the state, during the visit of officials of the state Ministry of Health to the palace of the Oniye of Iye Ekiti, Oba Jonathan Adeleye-Oni, on Friday. The officials were on an inspection tour of the General Hospital, Iye Ekiti and some others undergoing renovation.
The health facility at Iye Ekiti is among the nine general hospitals in the state undergoing renovation by the state government, after the completion of rehabilitation of hospitals in the first batch. Filani said, “The essence of renovating, building and equipping our hospitals is to allow as many people as possible seeking wellness to have access to the quality and affordable healthcare on offer in public health facilities across the state. “So we appeal to our people to continue to patronise these health facilities for better treatment and care.
These hospitals are being renovated and equipped for effective and efficient healthcare service delivery and improved health outcomes.” The commissioner, who expressed satisfaction with the level of work done by the contractors handling the projects, however, charged them to continue to ensure quality work”. The health facilities undergoing renovation and visited during the inspection tour included the General Hospitals at Ifaki-Ekiti; Iye Ekiti; Ayede Ekiti; Ilupeju/Itapa Ekiti; Ijesa Isu Ekiti; Ijan Ekiti and Ilawe Ekiti.
Oba Adeleye-Oni described the ongoing renovation work at the general hospital as “monumental, timely and well-conceived,” adding that the facelift would further enhance and increase patronage of the government hospital. “The hospital provides succour to Iye Ekiti as well as neighbouring communities in Ekiti and Kogi states. I commend Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his impactful developmental projects across the state,” he said.
