Wednesday, January 8, 2025 Egypt’s tourism sector achieved remarkable growth in 2024, welcoming a record-breaking 15.7 million visitors despite facing regional geopolitical challenges. This milestone was attributed to collaborative efforts within the tourism and antiquities sector, according to Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi.

In a recent statement following his Senate Committee participation, Fathi highlighted that the country’s diverse offerings and strategic initiatives have firmly positioned Egypt as a global leader in tourism. Tourism revenues in the first half of 2024 rose to $6.6 billion, a 5% increase compared to $6.



3 billion during the same period in 2023. Egypt also recorded 7.069 million visitors between January and June 2024, surpassing last year’s mid-year figures and further solidifying its recovery from the challenges of recent years.

Fathi emphasized that these achievements reflect not only resilience but also a vision for sustainable tourism growth. To sustain this momentum, Egypt has outlined ambitious plans to expand its tourism infrastructure. The addition of 40,000 new hotel rooms is central to accommodating the growing number of visitors.

This expansion aligns with Egypt’s National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism 2030, which aims to attract 30 million annual visitors by 2028. Investment in accommodations and transportation is expected to significantly enhance the overall visitor experience, making Egypt a more accessib.
