The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says President Cyril Ramaphosa has responded with fear, sheepishness, and indecision on whether or not he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should he set foot in South Africa. In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued warrants of arrest for Netanyahu, Israel’s former minister of defence Yoav Gallant and Mohammed Deif of Hamas, who Israel claims to have killed in an airstrike in July this year. EFF’S MALEMA ASKS RAMAPHOSA IF HE WOULD ARREST NETANYAHU Following the arrest warrant, EFF leader Julius Malema wrote to Ramaphosa to ask him if he would arrest Netanyahu if he were to set foot in South Africa.

The EFF said in typical fashion, Ramaphosa opted for a feeble response, hiding behind vague commitments to South Africa’s status as a signatory to the Roman Statute. “This lack of courage and decisiveness is unsurprising, as Ramaphosa has never demonstrated a spine for principled leadership. Instead, he masks his cowardice with claims of ‘consultation’ all while engaging in backdoor deals to protect his compromised interest,” EFF spokesperson Leigh-Ann Mathys said.

Mathys said the ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Palestine demand clear, unequivocal, and principled action. The party further accused Ramaphosa of evading direct questions and refusing to make meaningful commitments, proving once again that he cannot be trusted to lead South Africa in the fight for global justice. .
