EASTENDERS fans think they have worked out a bombshell twist over a recent shock murder. On last night's episode of the BBC soap, Reiss Colwell ( Jonny Freeman ) smothered his comatose wife Debbie . 7 Fans were shocked as Reiss smothered his comatose wife Debbie Credit: BBC 7 Sonia has attempted to help Reiss care for his former partner Credit: BBC 7 Financial pressure mounted on the pair as they sought to have a child together through IVF Credit: BBC The accountant turned to desperate measures as he faced mounting pressure over his finances .

He previously tried to scam Sharon Watts ( Letitia Dean ) over an unpaid tax bill as he needed money to keep up the care for his former partner. Reiss decided to make matters into his own hands as he snuck into the care centre and broke down in tears whilst taking her life. This comes as Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) decided to sell the long-time Branning family home to help pay for their future.

Earlier in the episode, she had visited Debbie on her own, and attempted to make her more comfortable by adjusting the pillow. In a suspicious move, she also didn't officially sign into the nursing home as a visitor, as there was no one on the desk when she arrived. The moment means many viewers think that Sonia will get the blame for her death when the police start to look at who had visited Debbie.

Taking to the fan forum Walford Web, fans have said that Sonia might soon be off to prison. " EastEnders fans predict shock killer twist for unlikely Walford resident - and 'work out' his first victim As a second claimed: "Let’s hope Sonia meets Chrissie in prison and she can reminisce about poolgate." "Is Sonia going to get blamed for Debbie being murdered? Just a thought," noted a third fan. "Sonia's role is far more active than Gail's was in Hillman's reign of terror which is a key difference, she regularly visited Debbie on her own and tonight voiced her view that Debbie would be better off passing away and people know she happily took Debbie's money for her IVF treatment," stated someone else.

Meanwhile, a fifth EastEnders enthusiast wondered: "I'm just happy that this story will lead to Reiss' eventual exit even if Sonia has to go to jail first." Killer Reiss could be a rare mistake for EastEnders The Sun's Soaps Editor Carl Greenwood fears EastEnders killer twist may be a huge mistake..

. SOAPS always work best when there’s a raging killer on the loose - and now EastEnders are testing that theory. When you think of iconic serial killers in soap - it’s always the ones that enjoy it that go down in history.

Corrie’s Richard Hillman and Pat Phelan, and Emmerdale’s delicious Meena Jutla - murders never seemed to be a chore for them. Viewers like to watch people enjoying themselves - even if their favourite past time involves going through their neighbours like a knife through butter. The least favourite killers are guilt-stricken murderers who blunder their way through killings wishing they hadn’t.

It’s dull and not enjoyable as a viewer. I fear creepy drip Reiss Colwell could be the latter. Especially if the soap falls into the trap only killing off inconsequential characters like Debbie.

So should he kill again - and we don’t know that he will - please, please let him enjoy it. Otherwise we’re in for a bumpy road to the 40th when there’s so much promise. Whilst another asked: "Could we see Sonia in prison with Chrissie then?" And a seventh added: "Why else do you think they had Sonia: Not sign in as a visitor.

Leave her DNA all over Debbie’s head and pillow. Talk about Debbie dying in front of two detectives. Show an estate agent round her house immediately after visiting Debbie.
