The first live music event saw Pete Tong bring his Ibiza classics DJ set to the racecourse in June. This was followed in July by Busted bringing their pop-punk style with the likes of Year 3,000, Crashed the Wedding and What I Go to School For. And the weekend finished with more of a throwback to the 1970s and 1980s with Earth, Wind and Fire.

Picture: Chloe Dunscombe/Jockey Club Live Al McKay brought his Earth, Wind and Fire Experience to the racecourse – and turned Haydock into a Boogie Wonderland. Al, who was an original member of the iconic 70s band, decided to put the show together after the group split up.
Despite not being the same group, those on the Haydock stage certainly delivered with hit classics such as September, Let’s Groove and Fantasy. He put the group together in the hopes of performing the music as close to the original recordings as possible – and it certainly had racegoers dancing away. The biggest crowd looked to be Pete Tong, helped by beautiful summer weather. The same about the weather could not be said for Busted, with driving rain besetting the racing, although it dried up for the gig, which had another healthy attendance.
As thoughts turn to next year’s acts, let’s hope Haydock can continue to find the right note, and the popular live music nights continue to draw in the crowds..
