Dancing With the Stars ’ Julianne Hough is opening up about a “confusing” time in her life from her childhood, revealing that she was sexually assaulted when she was just four years old. The co-host, who previously was a two-time champion and judge on the ABC competition series, has been more vocal about elements of her life recently, especially as she continues facing backlash over social media content like topless videos and is forced to defend herself for some of it. She also admitted more about the three-year relationship she had with Ryan Seacrest.

She opened up about the assault on Jamie Kern Lima’s podcast. While appearing on the podcast, Hough, 36, admitted she was assaulted by a neighbor when she was four, admitting it was the first time she had actually shared it in an interview.



“It was a very confusing time because growing up in the Mormon culture, everyone needs to be perfect, everyone needs to put on the shiny ‘we’ve got our stuff together.’” She also admitted the person never faced repercussions, because she never admitted it happened until later on in her life. She also described how she initially shied away from opening up about it to her mother as a kid, and shared she wasn’t the only person in her family to experience trauma.

She also owned up to being fearful she would face repercussions now that she had opened up about her experiences. “I feel like I’ve done something wrong,” she admitted.
