Thursday, October 3, 2024 Dwarka Expressway in New Delhi is on track to become India’s first highway to introduce Free Flow Tolling, a revolutionary toll collection system that eliminates traditional toll booths. This advanced technology enables vehicles to pass through toll zones without the need to stop, significantly improving travel efficiency and convenience. The system will employ state-of-the-art FASTag readers and high-resolution cameras mounted on overhead gantries to capture vehicle registration numbers and FASTag data, even at speeds of up to 100 km/h.
As vehicles drive under the gantries, toll charges will be automatically deducted from their FASTag accounts, eliminating the need for manual payments altogether. Say goodbye to traffic jams A key advantage of the new tolling system is its ability to reduce traffic congestion at traditional toll plazas. In the past, vehicles had to slow down, stop, and wait in long lines to pay tolls, leading to bottlenecks and travel delays.
With the implementation of Free Flow Tolling, traffic will continue moving smoothly, providing a more efficient and seamless travel experience. This initiative is part of the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) larger mission to modernize toll collection and enhance road travel nationwide. If successful on the Dwarka Expressway, this system could be rolled out to highways across India.
