Pune: Durga Puja , the most significant festival of the Bengali community , commenced on October 8, marking the beginning of five days of joyous celebrations, cultural events , and community gatherings across the city. The city's pandals are all decked up, showcasing the organizers' creativity and devotion, with stunning display of art, lighting, and themes ranging from the traditional to contemporary. One of the highlights of the day was Anandomela, a tradition followed at the start of Durga Puja festival, with members of the community preparing home-cooked delicacies and sharing them in a grand potluck-style feast.
Anindya Roy, president of Aikatan Durga Utsav Foundation in Wanowrie, said, "From the softest rasgullas to warm spicy ghugni and a variety of chops, the Anandomela is a diverse spread of Bengali favourites. The food was prepared by 15 of our members." The pandal erected by the foundation is a replica of Kedarnath Temple.
The significance of Anandomela lies in its ability to bring the community together, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among the Bengali population in Pune. Durga Puja is the time for people to bond over their shared love for food, culture, and tradition.
