Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police are searching for two men, who duped a lawyer (66) and his two sons of Rs57.57 lakh between Feb 2023 and Feb 2024, on the promise of giving them 5% profit on their investments with the duo ’s share trading firm. Police investigations have revealed that the duo further duped over 50 people, who are the relatives and friends of the lawyer, by using the same modus operandi.

“The duo collected over Rs2 crore from all the victims and duped them,” an officer from the Wakad police said. He added that the main suspect in the case has fled the country. “His accomplice is from another state.

Our investigations are on,” he said. The lawyer told TOI that in Jan 2022, one of his students introduced him to the suspects. “The duo had told me that they have vast experience in share trading.

They claimed that they invest people’s money in the share market and give 5% profit per month,” the lawyer said. He added that the duo also ran a financial firm and offered Rs1.5 lakh in 10 months on the investment of Rs1 lakh with them.

“I started investing the money and for a few months, they regularly paid me profit,” he said. He also told his relatives and friends to invest with the duo. “I was also the vice principal of a college.

I invested all my money that I got after retirement with these two. A few months later, the suspects stopped returning the profits to me and the other investors,” said the lawyer. When they started pursuing the duo for repayment, one fled the country, said the victim.

He added, “The man is a glib talker and even invited us abroad. When we met there, he promised to repay us. To date, he has not.

Finally, I lodged a complaint against the duo.” We also published the following articles recently Another investment fraud rocks city, 19 people duped of 73 lakh Nineteen ex-servicemen were deceived in an investment scam, losing Rs72.75 lakh between January and April 2023 in Pune.
