Indiana County’s newest commissioner will be involved in her first official function later Wednesday, when the board of commissioners as the county’s election board considers the military absentee ballots that were turned in as of Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile, Dr. Bonni S.
Dunlap leaves behind a role on the county board of auditors, and the vacancy will be filled in the same way Robin A. Gorman’s vacancy was filled on the county board of commissioners — by Gorman and Dunlap’s fellow Republicans. “The application process for County Auditor will be nearly identical to the recent process of filling the County Commissioner position,” county Republican Chairman Randy Degenkolb said Tuesday, “whereas an individual will be recommended to the Court Of Common Pleas for appointment.
” Candidates for the auditor vacancy will submit their letters to the Indiana County Republican Committee, which in turn will make its recommendation, per state law for counties of Indiana’s population class, to the president judge of the Common Pleas Court, Judge Thomas M. Bianco. “The Indiana County Republican Committee will release a timeline within the next week or so regarding this process,” said Degenkolb, who also is the county prothonotary and clerk of courts.
“I am hopeful to provide a recommendation to the court by mid-December.” Gorman resigned effective Friday to assume a new positiion as vice president of Homer City Redevelopment LLC, which is looking for a new purpos.
