A driver was taken to hospital after his car veered off the road and hit a tree. Washington Road in Steyning was closed at around 6.30pm on Tuesday after the incident, which left the man trapped inside his car.

Sussex Police, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics attended the scene. "The male driver had veered off the road, hitting a tree and was trapped in the vehicle. West Sussex Fire and Rescue attended, and the driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries. "A temporary road closure was in place from Walter Lane for a couple of hours.

" West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said two fire engines and a heavy rescue tender were at the scene. Hydraulic rescue equipment was used to release the driver from the car..
