Forrester Lagunas of Cache Valley Pottery was among several artisans who displayed his beautiful pottery Saturday at Logan's first-ever Center Street Art Beat Festival Saturday on Center Street in Downtown Logan. "I just wanted to share my pottery with the art comminity here in Logan and the Cache Valley," Lagunas said. The festival, put on by The Alley, displayed the talents of local artists and musicians.

The event is free and will feature local bands, artisans, businesses and food trucks. Roughly 45 vendors hosted booths and food trucks at the event. The festival showcased local talent while fostering a sense of community.

Several bands entertained participants at the festival, including Wildwing, The Painted Roses, Sky Olson and the Valley, The Last Wild Buffalo and Hatchback. Other musical performers at the festival included Moospinners, Wildwing, The Lonely Hearts Club Band, The High Desert Surfers, DJ Chincinnati, Holly Conger, Kristina Evonne, Bryce Wood, Zach Martinez, Craig Mecham and John Elwood Morgan. Organizers hoped to bring awareness to resources for mental health and addiction in Cache Valley, including the Recovery Cafe.

Recovery Cafe is a non-profit organization that supports those suffering from addiction and behavioral health struggles. The cafe holds addiction recovery meetings throughout the week and offers a place to “hang out and socialize with friends in a clean and sober environment.” According to the organization’s website, it has outgrown its current space and is looking for a new building to facilitate more meetings and to keep its doors open longer during the day.

Executive Director and co-owner of The Alley, Caylee Funk, said the festival was inspired by her own experience using art and music to improve her mental health. Funk was born and raised in Cache Valley. Her father struggled with addiction, and it impacted her family and her mental health.

“Music and art helped me get out of that negative headspace, but I felt like I had to leave the valley to find it,” Funk said in an Aug. 8 Herald Journal article. The Center Street Art-Beat iwas sponsored by: The Alley, Anderson’s Seed and Garden, Out West Artisan Market, Presidio Real Estate, The Little Jamm, City of Logan, Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce, Lucid Hair Collective, Lavender & Sage Ink, Prodigy Brewing and The Cache Bar.
