Pune: The heavy spell of rain on Sunday evening left the roads in Wadgaonsheri and surrounding areas in a poor way, with citizens complaining about commuting difficulties on stretches riddled with potholes . Residents said potholes were filled just a week ago and have been washed away already, exposing Pune Municipal Corporation ’s (PMC) shoddy repair work. Stormwater drains in Yerawada around Gunjan Chowk were choked and commuters abandoned their cars as water on the roads kept rising.

Kalyaninagar resident Ajay Bulbule said, “On Monday, many of us got chamber cover holes cleaned to ensure easy flow of water in case it rains heavily again. Obviously, PMC has done nothing.” A resident from Lane 10 in Kalyaninagar, Hamid Khursheed, said, “PMC put loose gravel in many potholes, leading to minor accidents.



North Avenue Road and Central Avenue and arterial roads in Kalyaninagar are terribly damaged. Sunday’s rains eroded all the quick-fix filling of potholes.” The area has experienced intense rain spells at least once every season for the last few years.

Resident Ravi Mandhare said, “I have been living in Kalyaninagar for 30 years. The recent downpours are extraordinary. PMC is ill-prepared to tackle the situation.

” In Wadgaonsheri, opposite St Arnold’s School, there was heavy flooding and residents were on the streets to help citizens. Pedestrians were wading through the water on the main road. Local resident Kranti Deshpande said, “The situation improved only when the rain slowed down after two hours.

” In Yerawada, there was waist-deep water on the main road. Movement from Yerawada towards the junction and on the opposite road was stopped. Four-wheelers were stuck on both sides of the road.
