Article content Greyhounds towering d-man Chase Reid was in wait and see mode on Wednesday afternoon. Originally, the Chesterfield, Mich., resident was listed as a scratch against the Sudbury Wolves, mid-week at the downtown rink.

“I had to get a release from USA Hockey, and we didn’t know how long it was going to take,” Reid said. “(Coach John) Dean told me to prepare like I was playing, thinking there was a slim chance. He then came in and told me it probably wasn’t going to work and 45 minutes before the start of the game he told me I was in.



” The Hounds beat Sudbury for the first time this season, a 7-4 win in the books. The Soo is 1-2-0-0 against the Sudbury canines. Many coaches and management types have waitedfor USA Hockey and Hockey Canada to get paperwork done in a timely fashion, those same coaches or GMs frustrated and befuddled by the lack of alacrity, at times.

Dean gave GM Kyle Raftis a verbal fist bump for finessing Reid’s paperwork between the two governing bodies. Besides liking the GM’s handiwork, Dean also liked the teen’s poise and fearlessness. “I liked that he made some mistakes, and he continued to go back out on the ice and demand the puck while trying to make plays,” Dean said.

“I think he is going to be a very good player in this league.” Now that there is a new relationship forged between the CHL and NCAA, players on both sides of the 49th parallel are making deals with either OHL teams or U.S.
