UK aesthete Douglas Dare has shared his new single ‘One Eye Open’. The songwriter’s work has incredible breadth, moving from torch song ballads through to hyper-futurist electronics. Recent album ‘Omni’ engaged with digital production while preserving the subtle heart that acts as the fulcrum of his work.

On its release, CLASH wrote : Gone are the acoustic instruments, and in are synths and drum machines. Don’t worry though, Douglas Dare hasn’t lost any of his knack for storytelling, or captivating melodies; they’re still here but layered under beats and bass lines. With a full UK tour kicking off in a few weeks, Douglas Dare has provided something new.

‘One Eye Open’ spans different dimensions of his work – it began as something tender, and acoustic-led, before being radically reworked. Out now, ‘One Eye Open’ has a real beauty to it, while also existing within a club space. He comments.

.. Originally ‘One Eye Open’ was written for The Birdsong Project and was an acoustic guitar-led song .

When I was writing my new electronic album ‘Omni’, Robert at my label said he was curious to hear OEO in a similar vein. I leaned fully into a heavy club sound and I was surprised to hear it worked in this new way. ‘One Eye Open’ was so heavy that it didn’t make sense to include on the Omni album so we saved it for its own moment.

Tune in now. Catch Douglas Dare at the following shows: October 1 Brighton Dust 3 Manchester YES, Pink Room 4 Bristol The Lantern 8 Glasgow The Rum Shack 9 Liverpool Arts Club, The Loft Photo Credit: Fran Gomez de Villaboa.
