‘Too expensive” was a common refrain when I mentioned my dream trip to Bergen, ­Norway’s second-largest city, and the Western Fjords. However, with the Norwegian kroner at an all-time low, the cost isn’t as prohibitive as many think. There are plenty of affordable ways to enjoy Norway’s epic scenery, thanks in part to an increase in self-­catering accommodation, from simple sea houses to converted fisherman’s cabins.
