Vadodara: Junior doctors registered their protest at the Kolkata rape and murder in a novel manner, playing the role of security guards at the state-run SSG Hospital here on Tuesday. With the slogan ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ on their aprons, shirts and T-shirts, the junior doctors pressed their demands for additional security measures on hospital premises. On Monday, the Junior Doctors Association ( JDA ) at Baroda Medical College submitted a list of seven demands which they said would have to be met for the strike to end.

“We stood outside the wards as security personnel to emphasize that hospital premises are in dire need of enhanced security,” said JDA president Dr Chintan Solanki. “Through a ‘shradhanjali’ programme, we grieved the assurance letter which was given to us a year ago by the hospital authorities. Earlier, when security issues had surfaced, we were given this assurance letter.

But nothing has moved so far,” he said. Amid the ongoing strike demanding justice for the rape and murder victim of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, the JDA has demanded that the number of security personnel at the hospital be increased to a minimum of 350. There are currently 112 security guards working in three shifts at the 1,513-bed hospital.

The association also demanded that ‘She’ teams be permanently stationed at the hospital, a 24x7 police station be set up on the campus and that the entire premises be covered under CCTV surveillance.
