It’s fair to say the debut trailer for the Minecraft movie caught fans’ attention — its unnerving mix of live-action and CGI-heavy backgrounds gave the blocky video game world of Minecraft we all know and love an uncanny valley look on the big screen. Some even thought the Minecraft movie trailer looked like something a generative AI might spit out . But what if the Minecraft movie was animated instead? That’s a question 3D artist Alumio set out to answer, and the end result is certainly going down well with fans.
Alumio’s remake of the Minecraft movie trailer, which has gone viral on social media, reimagines Jack Black, Jason Momoa, and the rest of the live-action cast as blocky characters similar to those we see in the video game, and delivers similar treatment to the backgrounds and other characters in the world. "Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn’t just help you craft, it’s essential to one’s survival," reads the synopsis.
