Dwarka: A Sacred City with Mystical Legends Located on the western coast of Gujarat, Dwarka is a city steeped in mythological significance. It is one of the four Chardhams, the four major pilgrimage sites for Hindus, and one of the Saptapuris, seven sacred cities in Hindu mythology. According to legend, Dwarka was founded by Lord Krishna over 5,000 years ago and was once a magnificent kingdom known as Swarna Dwarka, or Golden Dwarka.
The city was said to contain over 900,000 palaces constructed of silver and gold, surrounded by beautiful gardens and protected by sturdy fortress walls. The legend states that the city was submerged under the sea after Lord Krishna departed from his human form. Over the years, multiple excavations, particularly in the 1890s, have suggested that there is some truth to these ancient myths, adding a layer of intrigue and mystique to modern-day Dwarka.
Today, it is known not only for its spiritual importance but also for its exotic marine life, water sports, and camping site.
