Wednesday, August 28, 2024 Disney Cruise Line has announced that its Disney Dream ship will be diverted away from the port of Amsterdam due to ongoing climate protests that have disrupted operations for several cruise lines in recent weeks. The decision comes in response to planned Extinction Rebellion demonstrations that could prevent the ship from passing through the city’s locks. As a result of the protests, Disney Dream will now spend an additional day in Zeebrugge, Belgium, and skip the planned call in Amsterdam during its seven-night sailing starting from Southampton on 1 September.
The 4,000-passenger ship will arrive in Zeebrugge on 6 September and spend two days in the Belgian port before returning to the UK on 8 September. To accommodate the itinerary change, Disney is offering each cabin an onboard credit of $250 for shipboard services. Additionally, all pre-reserved excursions in Amsterdam have been canceled, and passengers will receive a full refund.
This is not the first time that Disney Dream have been affected by climate protests in Amsterdam. Recent demonstrations by Extinction Rebellion have forced other lines, including Royal Caribbean International, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and Ambassador Cruise Line, to amend their itineraries. Similar protests have also taken place in France, where activists from the Stop Cruises BZH Collective and Extinction Rebellion groups successfully blocked another Regent ship, Seven Seas Voyager, from entering Concarneau in north-west France.
