Monday, August 26, 2024 Explore the rich heritage of six northern provinces at a new tourism event, celebrating the unique cultural traditions and history of Viet Bac. The 15th annual “Tourism through Viet Bac Heritage Region ” program began on Sunday with a vibrant opening ceremony in Bac Kan city, showcasing captivating performances by six different art troupes. This event, celebrated for its cultural significance, highlights the region’s rich history and cultural heritage, drawing attention to the scenic and historical treasures of northern Vietnam.

Historically, Viet Bac holds a pivotal place in Vietnam’s history. It served as the headquarters for the Communist Party of Vietnam prior to the successful uprising against French colonial rule in 1945. Additionally, during the resistance war against the French colonialists from 1945 to 1954, Viet Bac was the strategic base for the Viet Minh government, underscoring its significance in Vietnam’s fight for independence.

This cultural and tourism program rotates annually among six northern provinces: Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, and Thai Nguyen. By sharing the hosting responsibilities, each province has the opportunity to showcase its unique cultural and historical attributes, fostering regional solidarity and promoting tourism across the Viet Bac region. The five-day event is packed with a variety of activities and attractions designed to engage and educate visitors.

Highlights include an OCOP (One Commune, One Product) festival, which features agricultural products and culinary delights from the six participating provinces. There is also an exhibition displaying paintings and photographs that capture the essence of Viet Bac, a mountain bike racing tournament set amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Bac Kan, and a competition for tour guides to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. In conjunction with the tourism program, Bac Kan province is also hosting special events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of its liberation on August 24.

This milestone celebration not only honors Bac Kan’s historical significance but also serves to deepen the appreciation of the region’s contributions to Vietnam’s national heritage..
