According to new data from KAYAK, the world’s leading travel search engine, and OpenTable, a renowned restaurant discovery and booking platform, there has been a significant increase in solo travel and dining over the past year. The two companies have teamed up to create the ultimate guide to solo travel and dining, offering tips on the best destinations, must-visit restaurants, and insights for solo adventurers.
With the search share of solo hotel rooms increasing by 9% over the last year and a 14% year-on-year rise in solo dining in the UK, the guide is set to be a valuable resource for travelers opting for solo experiences. The latest consumer data reveals that 72% of Brits plan to dine solo in the next 12 months, while 42% are planning solo trips during the same period. The trend is particularly prevalent among Millennials and Gen Z, with 80% of these younger generations planning to dine solo, and 90% expressing a desire or making plans to travel alone.
As the trend of solo experiences continues to grow, younger travelers are leading the charge by no longer waiting for a companion to explore new destinations or try a restaurant. In contrast, 68% of Gen X and 57% of Baby Boomers are planning solo dining, while 77% of Gen X and 73% of Boomers express interest in solo travel.
