Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel is a long shot to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy. But asked by Dan Patrick of NBC Sports on Friday to pick a finalist other than himself to win the award, Gabriel went against the grain. “I’m going to get some heat for this one, but I’m going to say Ashton Jeanty,” Gabriel told Patrick in a wide-ranging interview on his radio show.

“Me being in the Group of Five once, knowing the challenges that come with that. Of course, I played against Ashton this year, and he’s a talented individual. His story is unique, and what he’s been able to do has been pretty impressive.

” Jeanty ran for 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns across 13 games for Boise State this season, including 192 yards and three touchdowns against Oregon in Week 2. He is expected to finish second in Heisman voting, however, behind two-way Colorado superstar Travis Hunter. Gabriel is a distant third in Heisman odds at +25000 according to BetMGM, trailing Hunter (-2500) and Jeanty (+1000).

The Oregon signal-caller did tell Patrick he plans to have an attention-grabbing outfit for the ceremony in New York, though. “I’m (going to) style it up a little bit,” Gabriel said. “I think I’ll catch some people by surprise.

Not to hype it up too much, but I’ll make sure I make it do what it do, at least from a fashion standpoint.” The 2024 Heisman Trophy presentation airs at 5 p.m.
