Sometimes, things can get you down. It can feel like there is so much wrong with the world that there is just no point in trying to change it. Many people believe that the only way to make a difference is through some sort of monumental or heroic action.

But it is often the small, unsung heroes who are truly moving mountains, one brushstroke at a time. Ron Binder is a man who sees the beauty in a simple, kind act. He knows that it is often the little things that are most important.



For many years now — and increasingly so during his retirement over the last three years — Binder has put in the work to make Bradford just a bit better each day. “When we are done with our church service each Sunday the minister tells us to go out and make the world a better place,” said Binder. “And I have tried to live my life by that guiding principle.

” When he notices something around town that needs repainting, Binder simply buys a quart of Rustoleum and gets to work. He says he has always enjoyed painting and it is a good way to get outside and stay active. Some of the larger projects he has completed over the last few years include the handrails on Congress, Jackson and East Main streets.

He has also given new life to chipped parking meter posts and cement bollards. “I just keep on going, one quart at a time,” said Binder. “It is just my thing; my way of making Bradford a little bit nicer.
