1 2 Pune: The city is witnessing unusually warm nights with minimum temperatures soaring to unprecedented levels for Oct. Mercury touched a 10-year high of 23.3°C on Thursday, surpassing the previous record set earlier this month on Oct 3 (23.

2oC). On Friday, there was little respite with minimum temperature in the city (Shivajinagar) hovering around 23.2oC.



Meteorological experts said the phenomenon was not limited to Pune alone. Across Maharashtra , night temperatures were hovering 1-5 degrees above normal, with minimum temperatures ranging between 22-25°C in several locations. The higher-than-normal temperatures are making Oct nights particularly uncomfortable, despite occasional scattered showers.

The surge in humidity levels could be attributed to moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, said experts. This combination of high temperature and humidity has disrupted the typical late October weather pattern, known for its pleasant nights. "The recent thunderstorms haven't brought any relief.

The weather remains uncomfortably hot and humid even during night, which is unusual for late October in Pune. The characteristic autumn nip is absent, forcing many of us to rely on air-conditioners even during night," said Abhinav Singh, a city-based working professional. Weather experts indicated that these conditions, including partly cloudy skies, were likely to persist for the next few days.
