When Guy Cresswell learned that his father, Seymour, was to publish his debut murder-mystery novel, the graphic designer immediately wanted to create the cover. Here, the Dubliner talks through the process Seymour Cresswell and his son Guy When Dad first announced that his passion project — Nice Weather for a Killing, a comedic, murder-mystery novel about a hapless groom who discovers a corpse in the aisle on his wedding day — had been picked up and was to be published by Poolbeg Press, my mind rather selfishly jumped to one thing: who’s doing the cover? “I have worked as a graphic designer for over 10 years, plying my trade for creative agencies across a broad range of clients and projects. The work is diverse and varied: from brand identities to advertising campaigns, whiskey bottles to soap dispensers, GAA to travel retail.

However, through all this, I never had the opportunity to try my hand at a book cover, let alone one that would have my dad’s name on it..
