DENTON — Colorful and community-driven art banners are back for the second year in the Denton Artsway on Market Street. They are 60 inches tall and 24 inches wide, and they went up Aug. 13 for 12 weeks.

The theme of this year’s 12 banners is Moments of Joy. “Moments of Joy emphasizes community connection. It celebrates local culture.

It highlights natural beauty and inspires positivity and resilience,” said Megan Krizovensky, program coordinator for Caroline County Council of the Arts, which helped organize the banners. All the artists used acrylic paint and sealed them for the weather with polyurethane. There were 12 artists involved: Yolanda Acree, Allie Bilbrough, Laurel Orendorf, Renee Pilarski, Jo Ebling, Kat Ebling, Ashley Christian, Lynn Cegelski, Kaitlyn McNeal, Rose Jeon, Kat Thompson and Krizovensky.

CCCA is focused on bringing art to Denton’s downtown. “We are trying to have more public art displays,” Krizovensky said. “So we can really draw the eye up and beautify the town.

That, in connection, will boost the businesses for like the sponsors. They are supporting the arts. “It draws tourism in and heightens businesses all around.

That is the goal of the artsway,” she said. A big part of the process is finding sponsors. There were sponsors that made Moments of Joy possible.

These are: Main Street Taxi, Pizza Empire, Kathleen Thompson, Main Street Sweets and Heather Yoc-Santos LLC. There is one banner from the Arts Council dedicated to Sue Simmons..
