Sunday, September 8, 2024 Delta Air Lines is gearing up for the holiday season by boosting capacity between Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) and San Diego International Airport (SAN). Starting November 10, the airline will reintroduce its Boeing 767-300ER on this route, offering additional seating capacity through March of next year. This marks the first time in two years that Delta will operate widebody aircraft between Atlanta and San Diego, increasing seating capacity by over 20 seats compared to the narrowbody planes currently serving the route.

According to aviation analytics provider Cirium, Delta will operate daily flights with the 767-300ER until December 3, when the aircraft will be temporarily replaced. Westbound flight DL447 is scheduled to depart Atlanta at 16:35, landing in San Diego at 18:15. The eastbound flight DL762 will leave San Diego at 07:20, arriving back in Atlanta at 14:30.



This seasonal adjustment reflects Delta’s commitment to meeting increased demand during the busy holiday travel period. Starting January 6, 2025, the flight schedule will shift, with flight DL712 departing ATL at 17:55 and arriving in SAN at 17:55, and the return flight DL762 leaving SAN at 08:15 and landing in ATL at 15:25. Throughout November, Delta’s 767-300ER will operate 41 frequencies, with 21 flights to SAN and 20 to ATL. In December, 30 flights are scheduled, with 15 flights in each direction.

The 767-300ER on this route features Delta’s “76K” configuration, accommodating 216 passengers in three classes. Delta One offers 26 lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 layout, with 20.5-inch-wide seats that extend to 77 inches in flat mode.

Delta Premium Select features 18 seats in a 2-2 configuration, offering 19-inch-wide seats and 38 inches of pitch. The main cabin holds 172 seats in a 2-3-2 arrangement. The first three rows are Delta Comfort+ with 34 inches of pitch, while the remaining seats have a pitch of 31-32 inches.

Passengers across all cabins can enjoy in-seat power, WiFi, USB charging, and personal entertainment screens. In November, the only other aircraft on this route will be the Airbus A321, which is scheduled for 172 flights in each direction. The A321 has a seating capacity of 191 passengers.

Delta faces competition from Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines, although data indicates that Southwest will discontinue this route early next year..
